UM, SO I THINK THE NEXT STEP IS TO HAVE KIND OF A COMMUNITY WORK SESSION TO TALK ABOUT WHAT OUR GOALS ARE FOR TOURISM.
UM, YOU KNOW, THERE'S BEEN ONGOING CONVERSATION IN THE LIAISON MEETINGS ABOUT THE TOWN AND THE COUNTY WORKING TOGETHER WITH TOWARDS 'EM AND WHAT THAT CAN LOOK LIKE.
UM, THERE'S NO ACTIONABLE STEPS ON THAT JUST YET FROM AN EXTERNAL FOCUS, BUT THERE'S DEFINITELY BEEN SOME STAFF WORK THAT'S BEEN DONE TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT CAN LOOK LIKE MOVING FORWARD.
UM, HOPEFULLY THERE'LL BE SOMETHING FRUITFUL COMING OUT OF THAT SOON.
AND, UM, THEN WE'D BE ABLE TO KIND OF MOVE FORWARD WITH A SINGULAR VISION.

AND AS OF RIGHT NOW, CTV MEETING, THE COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD IN JANUARY DIRECTED VDOT TO PURCHASE THE CORRIDOR.
AND I BELIEVE THOSE NEGOTIATIONS ARE STILL GOING ON.
UM, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY UPDATES ON WHERE THEY ARE WITH THE STATUS OF PURCHASING THE CORRIDOR, BUT THE PLAN IS TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL FROM THE COMMONWEALTH STANDPOINT.
ONCE SPEED DOT'S ABLE TO GO THROUGH ALL THIS INFORMATION, THEY CAN THEN MAKE A DETERMINATION AS THE BEST PATH FORWARD.
WHETHER THAT'S RAIL TRAIL, WHO OWNS IT, WHO MANAGES IT, ET CETERA.
HOW ARE WE IMPACTED BY THAT? WHAT'S, IS THERE A, A PROJECTED ROUTE FOR THE RAIL? YEAH.
SO WE WOULD BE THE NORTHERN TERMINUS OF THE TRAIL.
SO IT'S A 50 MILE MULTI-USE TRAIL THAT WOULD RUN FROM FRONT ROYAL TO BROADWAY, VIRGINIA, ALONGSIDE THE TRACK.
WELL THE RAIL TWO TRAIL IS TO TURN THE RAIL INTO A TRAIL ON THE ABANDONED RAIL.
IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE, IT'S BEEN ABANDONED HERE.
WHICH ONE? WHICH RIVER IS THAT ON? WHICH IS IT ON NORTH FOR NORTH PARK.
SO IT WOULD TERMINATE THERE AT THE FORMER VFW SITE.
UM, AND THEN IT WOULD RUN TO STRASSBURG AND THEN SOUTH TO TIMBERVILLE BROADWAY.

UH, WHEN THE FEASIBILITY STUDY CAME OUT WITH DCR, IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT NORFOLK SOUTHERN SAID THEY'D BE WILLING TO SELL THE CORRIDOR AS LONG AS IT WENT THROUGH FRONT ROYAL AS WELL.
'CAUSE ORIGINALLY THE PLAN WAS JUST CHARLESBURG IN TIMBERVILLE FROM ROYAL.
THE, THE 11 MILES FROM C CHARLESBURG FRONT ROYAL WAS BROUGHT IN AT THE LAST MINUTE.
BUT WE'RE THANKFUL THAT WE WERE INVOLVED IN THAT BECAUSE

A LOT OF THOSE EXCURSION RAILS, PAINTED RAILS ARE SUBSIDIZED BY COMMERCIAL.
UM, SO THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT CHALLENGES THAT THAT FACES AS WELL.
AND THE COST IS QUITE SUBSTANTIAL JUST TO GET IT UP AND GOING.
